Batman, to me, will always be the exquisitely put-together Batman: The Animated Series. The Wikipedia helpfully informs me that I was nine-years-old when the cartoon originally ran on Fox Kids. I hadn’t really gotten into anime yet – which was more happenstance than intent – so this was the first time I’d seen a cartoon that really took itself seriously. Well, as seriously as TV-Y can get, anyway. But I mean, people died, the drama was tangible, and it looked gorgeous. Plus, y’know, Kevin Conroy puts to utter shame every other actor that’s played Batman.
